It’s that time of year again when all the kiddos head back to school and lazy summer mornings quickly change to rushing out the door to catch the school bus. School mornings can be hectic, but adding a healthy breakfast is easy with a little planning and creativity.
Eating breakfast is very important. Research shows that students who eat breakfast have better memory, attention, and problem-solving skills. Unfortunately, not all breakfasts are created equal. Make sure your child eats a balanced breakfast containing healthy protein and fat sources like dairy, eggs, nut butters or lean meat like turkey sausage or bacon along with, fiber and complex carbohydrates to keep her or him focused and energized until lunchtime.
A healthy breakfast does not need to be complicated. A bowl of whole grain cereal with milk and fruit will do the trick. They’re a fun and delicious grab-n-go option that can be made the night before. That’s a win for the whole family!
Banana Breakfast Pops
- 2-3 whole bananas
- 1 1/2 cups nonfat vanilla Greek yogurt
- Topping(s) of choice
- Crispy cocoa rice cereal
- Grape Nut-type cereal
- Rainbow rice cereal
- Chia seeds
- Dried cranberries
Cut all bananas in half and push a popsicle stick through the middle of the halved banana. Spread bananas with yogurt and sprinkle with topping(s) of choice. Roll banana pop in wax paper and refrigerate overnight in air tight container.
